Found Treasure

I found a treasure today -- just a piece of paper, from a normal day of doodling. The only thing I wrote on it was the date -- May 3, 2011. There is a bunch of writing, and then a map at the bottom, and on the other side a second, bigger map. Here's what it says (spelling and punctuation are not corrrected):

dear harry Potter,
I know you don't know me but I'll be inside hogwarts this year. you know your mom and dad are dead but I can bring them back and I can bring anything back and anything away. I'm not very good at magic but my hobby is Muggles. You could be a super cool person. from Stewart
P.S. I could be a great wizard or not one great wizard.

The map is titled "the Plan. get all of the rubys." It has a bunch of little passageways, with little squares inside, and one of the squares off by itself is labeled "that's a ruby". There is also an "empty room up the stairs" and three passageways with arrows that say "that's no good". The second map is called "how to get there." and "hogwarts" and the "forbidin forest" are labeled.

What a funny little guy this is! I love his imagination so much!

Here's the backstory:
When Parker was in the middle of 1st Grade, we changed his bedroom so he would share with Kimball. To help Kimball go to sleep, I decided he could stay up a little longer and do something special with me, so we started reading Harry Potter, year 1. We finished right around the time Stewart started 1st Grade, so I asked Parker if he wanted to read it again, this time with Stewart. They BOTH thought that was a great idea, and now the "big boys" go to bed an hour later than the "little kids", and Joel and I take turns playing with them, reading to them, or watching a little TV (So You Think You Can Dance and Biggest Loser are super-popular around here!). I usually read to them, and in Stewart's 1st Grade year we finished both Harry Potter 1 AND 2, and then we watched the movies. Let me tell you, these boys are hooked! I don't dare let them read/watch the third HP yet, so right now we're reading "The Emerald Atlas" -- which is so, so great! I LOVED it, and knew right away that the kids would, too. It starts out a little slow, but once it picks up it REALLY picks up, and there are so many fun & funny characters. I love that these kids love to read, just like their Mama & Daddy! Another treasure I found? A scrap of paper that I'd written about Stewart. He'd noticed the snow starting to fall, and said, "Mama, a storm just BONKED in!"

Ah, if only there were great books like Harry Potter when I was a kid. I was stuck with the "Little House" books. And that was about a GIRL (yuck)! Way to go, Smith Parents Mark II.

What an imagination! I agree with Dad, "Little House," "Bobbsey Twins," and "Nancy Drew" pale in comparison. Good job passing on the love of books!

Love Stewart's imagination! That kid has an awesome mind. Heck, I wish Harry Potter was around when I was a kid! Instead I learned to love reading at 19...
