Oh, FIREFLIES! That is the one bug I really, really miss from our time in the Midwest! I was just a kid when we moved, so I only have a few memories, but they're all good, happy ones.
The bug I'm surprised I like around here is a dragonfly. They are so beautiful! And harmless! We live really, really close to Hobble Creek, which is pretty big for a creek, and there are a ton. I think they eat mosquitoes, which we also have in abundance. All the more reason to love dragonflies, right?

By the way, do you (personally) say "CREEEEK" or "CRICK"?

How sweet. Yep, we like dragonflies, too. (And they DO eat mosquitos, which equals a friend in my book!) And after thoughtful consideration, I believe I'm a crEEk person.
My parents were from Arkansas and said "Crick." When I was growing up in Oregon, the two bugs that were plentiful that everyone would play with were June bugs and potato bugs. I don't know the real name of potato bugs, but they have a hard partitioned shell on their back, and when you touch them, they roll up in a little impenetrable ball.
Yeah, impenetrable.... that's what I thought as a kid so I stepped on one to see if it really would protect it.
Let's just say *crack* and leave it at that... >.<
Eww, Joel! I often wondered what that was on your shoes! Growing up in eastern Oregon, it was definitely crEEk. This has been a nature week, with your bugs and Christina & Nick's aquarium adventures. Amazing spectrum of God's creatures!
Yeah, I have to say creek at home... but in Idaho, I always say crick! :)
crEEk! A Crick is what you get in your next when you've had it in one position too long. You'd only want a masseuse to play in your crick!
Fireflies are awesome. The first time I saw them in North Carolina I thought I was seeing things. So cool!
I'm gonna weigh in: creek for me too. Even if it's one of those teensy, slow-moving-through-a-cow-pasture-type creeks that is almost more of a gradually-moving puddle, I still say creek instead of crick.
I think Brian told me dragonflies can and do bite people sometimes, so I always keep my distance a bit.
One evening in PA Brian came home from work (abt. 9:30) and tried to drag me outside. I was tired and didn't want to but did anyway, and the fireflies were everywhere! They gradually moved up into the trees and filled them, so it looked like huge fireworks in our backyard. It was the most spectacular thing, ever.
