Happy Halloween-y!

I'm not sure where Paige heard about Halloween, but every time she saw someone's pumpkins on their porch she'd say, "Yook, Mama -- they awe weady fow Hayyoween-y!" I love that this sometimes scary holiday is "Halloween-y" to her! This year's Halloween found the Mama where she usually is -- slaving away over the sewing machine and trying desperately to finish up those Halloween costumes. Why is it that I'm NEVER ready??? Although, this year I had a really good (flu) excuse, so I only had this last week to do costumes. Parker's didn't take any time at all, Stewart's was the same as his birthday party (although he changed his mind at the last minute when a friend gave him a super fun hand-me-down costume), and Paige's took -- no lie -- more than one Saturday's-worth of sewing. It would have helped if I'd had the whole day, but I didn't actually get to sit down and sew until about 11:00, so I worked pretty much straight until 5:00 or so and called it good. Yes, she was totally safety-pinned into her costume, and the hemming was also safety-pinned, but we had a really fun evening together. This year I got to go out with the kids, and a little friend (Nathan, Deborah's nephew) came over to trick-or-treat with us. Nathan's dad, Uncle Kevin, & Aunt Deborah rounded out the party. We all had a ton of fun and we were able to give out a lot of candy, although not as much as last year -- this year we actually had LEFTOVER candy! Here we are in all our glory (Joel didn't dress up, so he's taking the picture -- neither did I, but you can't tell!!): Trick-or-treat! Parker as Luke: using The Force: doing a Jedi jump: Stewart the Super Hero (I has spoken!): Paige as Snow White: Enjoying the treats: Kimball as Jack-Jack: Some of our trick-or-treaters: Hope you had a Happy Halloween-y, too!

Wow, Parker looked like Luke Skywalker and Paige didn't look like herself! But Kimball is a doll! What was Stewart's costume?

Inspired costumes. I almost thought Kimball would catch on fire and grow horns. What a cutie!

-K, Stewart's costume is actually NOT a superhero, but the star and hero of an old Nickelodeon TV show, "LazyTown", called Sportacus. The show is actually a spoof because, as it says in the title, "no one's lazy in LazyTown". Sportacus is the coolest guy there because (well first of all, he's one of only two 'real guys' there because the rest are puppets, and there is one girl...) --because he helps everybody get out of scrapes and stuff (so, okay, like a superhero), but in a back-flipping, triple-twisting, karate-kicking, somersault-through-the-air-while-heading-a-soccerball kind of way. He's sporty, fun, and nice, without a lot of cheezy dialogue (at least for him -the rest of it is admittedly queso), and gets the people of LazyTown up and moving. So great for Stewart!

Parker, awesome jedi.
Paige, amazing Snow White -did you dye her hair??
Kimball, I about died because his Jack-Jack costume was so stinking cute!!!
Natalie, you've looked better ;), but for Halloween, it's great!

Whoops, totally forgot to post about the pumpkins. Really cute!
Two ideas to keep them from shriveling: If they start to shrink, dunk them in a bathtub filled with the coldest water you have and let them bob around for awhile. 15 min? 30 min? -not sure. take them out and they'll be good as new.
Martha Stewart version: right after carving, use a Q-tip and rub vaseline all over the cut parts. They won't touch air and won't shrivel like little raisins.
Now try to remember these tips for next year! =)
