Ditty Hocks

Just like every almost-two-year-old, Kimball has a language that only Mama really speaks fluently -- but I bet you can guess what he was telling me yesterday.

Kimball loves to put on his "hocks" and "hoos" and go "side". What kid doesn't love the great outdoors? And the other day was no exception. We ended up weeding the garden all day, which means that we now have a really big dirt pit in the yard -- hurray! (This is good news because, a) we had so many weeds they were taking over the grass, b) the kids are LOVING playing with trucks in the dirt again, and c) we needed to prep it this year before fall so we can move a little sod and "rearrange" the back yard -- our big plan is to make room for the fire pit in the corner of the yard, move the shed, and put the garden where the shed is now -- and this means we're that much closer to our end goal.)

Well, because of all that weeding, our already-dirty kitchen floor was now a big dirt pit all its own, so on Tuesday I got out the mop and started going crazy on the floor. It felt so good -- I've waited WAY too long to mop. (In fact, I'm so excited to have the floor clean that I kind of want to mop again! :) So, right in the middle of mopping, I had a friend call me about trading babysitting this year while we volunteer at the school. I was a little distracted, with the scheduling and the crazy mopping, and didn't hear that Kimball was no longer in the living room like I thought. Right as I finish mopping, I hear:

"Hock... ditty... Mama. Hock... ditty... Mama. Hock... ditty!" That's how Kimball talks -- one... word... at... a... time. And he was really concerned! When I turned around, this is what I saw:

Those socks were ORIGINALLY white... I don't think they'll ever be the same! Apparently, he also got into the charcoal we'd left from our marshmallow roast the night before, so the gray on his face and clothes is mostly from that, while the socks are dirty from... dirt. Plus, bear must have been playing a little, too -- time for a bath for both little rascals!

I know you said the kid was high maintenance, but whoa! That really is a "ditty" little boy! Can't help but love them, thought. I remember they piled huge piles of dirt by Wymount Terrace when we lived there, and my goodness, you should have seen your husband coming home then! (Actually, he was hard to recognize.)

Little boys = dirt. Another confirmation of that law of nature! So cute!
