Starting and Finishing
I have this neighbor, that just has the cleanest house ever. I am totally envious of the state of things in her house. One of her biggest things is that she can't handle anything on the countertops. What -- you mean that's not a place to put anything you can't deal with right this minute? She also does all her laundry on one day. She said she just works hard at it all day long, and then she doesn't have it dragging out for the whole week. It really made sense to my brain, and then I started a revolutionary way of thinking... I've decided that there are two people in life -- or, at least in housework -- starters and finishers. The starters like to do a little bit on each project every day, so there isn't ALL the laundry on one day. For some people, it really seems to work -- just ask Joel's mom, or even the FlyLady! But for me, I think I've been a starter that never actually finishes. I'll start way too many jobs for the time I have, and by the end of the day I'm just frustrated that I haven't accomplished a single thing. So, I'm done multitasking for a little while. I'm trying finishing -- just doing jobs I know I can do in the time I have, and see them through to the end. I'm not SURE it will work, but I'm hopeful!

Just tell yourself you're a "people person" and let it go at that. If I wasn't married to Pat, I would never finish anything either.
Bless your heart! It was never a matter of starting and finishing for me, but rather doing things in small increments rather than huge mountains. Besides, my mother washed every day (and still does) and I liked it, so I continued it! By the way, every other "chore" is pretty much just one day a week, other than cooking and dishes.
Good luck!
I'm a starter
This really is a different way of thinking/doing things than I know. And sometimes discovering something different than you've always done helps you re-vamp the way you approach chores and (a bit trite) life. I'm glad you're trying something new. I'll have to think about that a bit more...
I'm working on being more positive.
Hope we both succeed!
I actually tried this today, and it was a very interesting experiment. Instead of setting down Rose's shoes by the door while she had her nap (because I knew she'd be going out again afterward anyway), I just put them away, a whole three feet/closet door/drawer away. Voila! One less thing cluttering up the floor!
So yes, I noticed an immediate difference in just a change of mindset. Will it work all the time? We'll see. It almost seems like I did less today, even though I bet it was just that I STARTED less, but finished more (except the dishes, they'll have to wait until morning). Some things take time to change, what can I say! =)
Ah, very wise! I think I'm a finisher. I wont start something unless I know I can finish it. Sometimes that leads to some messes until I have time to clean them up... but as you know I'm a bit of a clean freak.
