Parker gave a talk today in church. He did a great job! He forgot to take up his scriptures, so there was a funny moment right in the middle when he said, "Darn it! I forgot my scriptures. I think they're in the library." But Tanner Packer (and a bunch of others) was quick to offer up his, so, crisis averted. Parker got to give his talk with just notes, and he really remembered almost everything -- well done, buddy!
When Jesus Christ was on the earth, he taught the people the doctrines of His church. One of the most famous of His teachings is called the Sermon on the Mount. But after He died the teachings were lost or changed, so His church was taken from the earth.
The scriptures talk a lot about the Restoration of the Church. When Lehi got old and was about to die, he wanted to leave his sons with a blessing. He prophesied to his last son, Joseph, about the latter days. In 2 Nephi 3:24, we read:
"And there shall rise up one mighty among them, who shall do much good, both in word and in deed, being an instrument in the hands of God, with exceeding faith, to work mighty wonders, and do that thing which is great in the sight of God, unto the bringing to pass much restoration unto the house of Israel, and unto the seed of thy brethren."
In this scripture, Lehi prophesied about Joseph Smith helping to restore the gospel.
This year in our class we are studying the Doctrine and Covenants. I love learning about the restoration, especially how they printed the Book of Mormon. We wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the Restoration of the Church.
