If you've never seen Stargate, you have no idea what I'm talking about here. But suffice it to say, I'd never heard of 5th Avenue candy bars before I saw that movie. Who knew the army put them into soldiers' suits? But thank heaven they did, because it fostered an intergalactic friendship that ultimately saved the planet. And Earth, too.
I was thinking about that scene the other day, and had the thought: would I be so trusting, just because it was something tasty? Wouldn't that tip me off to something even worse -- some horrible poison? Perhaps I'm just not trusting enough of strangely-garbed people who come from out of the despot's landing pad.
Anyway, to tie this all in together, I'd just like to tell you that I didn't get my Visiting Teaching done in June. I tried, but things kept falling through and I kept forgetting to call people (like my companion, to see if she could go). So, there I was, on June 30, in the grocery store checking out the candy bars and trying to figure out what would be the best choice for my ladies -- especially since I don't even know if they like candy bars or are lactose tolerant (is ANYONE these days???). Finally, I decided it was the thought that counts, and ended up choosing a king-size Caramello for each of them... and one for me. I kind of took the opportunity (I was without children -- thank goodness for doctors' appointments that end early!) to restock my candy stash -- and no, Joel, there isn't much left of it. I've been such a candy freak lately! But I saw this 5th Avenue, and decided, hey, why don't I try that again -- I think I've only had it once, and couldn't remember what it tastes like. So, yesterday I ate it. And it was THE BEST THING I'VE EVER EATEN*. It was a warm day, so it melted a little in the car, but it was extra fun to lick every last yummy morsel off the inside of the package!
*disclaimer: No, it was not quite as good as the salmon I ate when we knew I was pregnant with Paige. That was SOOOOOO good that I could feel the goodness going into my fingertips! But it was a very, very close second. I so do not have this relationship with food if I'm not expecting!

For those who didn't catch it, Natalie is talking about Stargate, the original movie :)
I always find the stash when it's been reduced to mere wrappers. *sniff*
Somehow I'll pull through. Hmm, does this wrapper have any chocolate on it? *Lick*
Yeah, you'd better hide any candy from Joel!:)
5th Avenue is sooooooo much better than Butterfinger, although they have about the same ingredients. However, they are (like Big Hunks) hard to find in Utah. Next time I come over I'll be snooping around . . .
5th Avenue is (was) definitely my favorite candy bar! "sniff" Now because of my chocolate problem, I'm reduced to taffy and starburst, sob, but for many years it was 5th Avenue, so I say, go for it! I'd send them to Christina in Sweden when she was on her mission because she's a fan as well!
I can't believe I'd never heard of them -- I think they're generally pretty hard to find. There is a section in our local Allen's grocery store that has almost every kind of candy -- even Idaho Spuds! -- and that's where I found it.
Ah yes. 5th Avenues. Absolutely heavenly little packages of peanut butter and chocolate!
Mom, your taste buds will be restored in the resurrection...but will we care about things like chocolate then? Hm.
