Happy Birthday to You!

Paige had her birthday a little over two weeks ago, and we finally downloaded the pictures! :)

We had a really nice day. Paige had a cold, so I told her she couldn't go to nursery, but... she ended up going anyway! Joel got a phone call right in the middle of sacrament meeting -- something that has never, ever happened before -- and had to go home and WORK! I had to go check on the nurseries, and before I knew it, Paige was inside, and saying, "Bye, Mama!" So I left her there to contaminate all the toys, but at least she was having fun on her birthday!

After church, Rachel came over and helped me make dinner -- Hawaiian Haystacks with all the fixings (except coconut -- how could I forget??), because it was Mom Smith's birthday, too! I love that Paige was born on her birthday -- I'm born on my Grandpa's birthday, and I've always felt a special connection with him because of it.

Of course, we had to have a chaser, graciously provided with last-minute aplomb by Aunt Rachel.

Presents! (I know it looks like she only got one, the rest are just hidden by kids)

This was the first present she opened -- a sweet, super-soft puppy named Rover from Grandma & Grandpa Smith. (By the way, this is the first animal/dolly we've ever named, and it's only because it came with a name. We just don't think to call it anything other than "puppy.") You can see it in all the other pictures of her opening presents, because she wouldn't put it down!

Evidence she wouldn't put it down:

Stewart gave Paige some coloring books he picked out himself:

Paige got a lot of "pretties" for her birthday, some from Parker (please note: she is a Nephite, not a Lamanite):

And some from Grandma Baird:

And here she is, blowing out the candles! When we look at these pictures, she always says "Happy Birthday!" when she sees the cupcakes. :)

And, here's the confession: Joel and I forgot to give Paige our present this year. We got it the day before, but in all the excitement we just forgot to get it out of the trunk of the car. So, a couple of days later, Paige got this, no frills or wrapping attached:

She doesn't seem too sad to have gotten it late, though, does she? :)

Ahhhh Paige is sooo adorable! It was fun to see her get so wrapped up in one present that she had to have a present stuck under her nose and told to open it. I'm sure she'll have got the hang of presents by next year ;)

We love our girl! Interestingly enough she's the most strong-willed of the kids. She started throwing fits even before she learned to walk. Boy are we in for it!

What a cutie! She is adorable in her pretties! I love sharing my birthday with her; that was the very best 58th birthday present anyone could ever ask for. Love you, Paige!

In Paige's case, throwing fits is the "terrible and cute twos." We're so glad you got at least one girl. They are really fun. (By the way, the dog's name is Earl.)

Duke Earl the Dog. Has quite the ring to it, doesn't it? :-D

um . . . sorry, but i didn't follow. what's the story with the nephite not a lamanite? is it because she doesn't have a mark on her forehead?

No, no -- she's a Nephite because her bracelet is so high on her arm. Remember those pictures in the Book of Mormon Reader? Simply EVERYONE was wearing them. :)

Paige looks like a mixture of her brothers in that first picture with the stroller! Such a cutie...
