Bad Dreams
Stewart has been having a rash of bad dreams. I'm not sure why, but they seem to happen mostly at 4:30 a.m. I think that most of them are really just him waking up and feeling bad because he's woken up too early (and to get a little loving out of Mom in the middle of the night, because I'm a sucker for the "bad dream" thing), but the other night we could tell from our conversation that he actually had a bad dream. Stewart: Mama, I had a bad dream. (crying as the sentence goes on) Mom: Oh, honey, I'm so sorry. Do you want to tell me about it? Stewart: No. [I always had to tell my bad dream to get it out of my head, but Stewart typically doesn't want to talk about it.] ... But Mama, what would really happen if I got squashed by a car?

Dreams are funny things. For me, they are usually linked to something I ate. I think that was true even when I was little. I would eat black-eyed peas and that night the bad guys would be chasing me.
Bad dreams are horrible! They seem so real, even at 61, so at 5, they're definitely horrifying. But you're a sweet mama to come to the rescue! (By the way, I LOVE the individual pictures of everyone on your sidebar!)
I hate bad dreams. Poor Stewart! Maybe he needs to go to bed later :)
Can I just say, thank goodness you're a sucker when it comes to dreams! For some of us, that's the only way we survived until morning. Hooray for those in the world who have compassion at strange hours of the night. Keep it up.
:-( Poor guy... give him hugs for us...
Jacob has bad, bad dreams too. Most often he only halfway wakes up, sits up in bed and starts crying/wailing/swaying back and forth/sometimes screaming. It was scary the first few times. It's not easy to wake him, and harder to get him to go back to sleep. Sometimes when he's extra wiggly I can tell part of the problem is that he's got to go to the bathroom, and that seems to help once he's back in bed. Occasionally it's really distressing to him, though, as if it's an awful part of the dream! Oh dear. Anyway, I just try to talk to him about "nice" stuff. Like Julie Andrews would sing about. And that usually calms him down.
What on earth could you say that would help Stewart about being squished by a car??!
