First Day and Eating a Beet

Today is the first day of school for Parker (Stewart goes next week), and he is SO excited (he woke up at 5:30 this morning and could NOT go back to sleep -- so he says)! He ate about 1/2 the breakfast he usually does, because (in his own words), "My stomach feels like I ate a beet!" I'm glad, because toward the end of last year he was really tired of going to school every day. He LOVES his new book bag (more on that later) and is excited for his new teacher, Mrs. Hall. We absolutely LOVED Mrs. Carpenter, so I was nervous that his first grade teacher would be kind of scary, but everyone we've talked to has told us how amazing Mrs. Hall is. Can it be that we've lucked out twice in a row?!? And let me tell you, that kid was ready in plenty of time this morning -- so unlike last year! We even had plenty of time for tons of pictures. Here's Parker in all his glory: (this first picture he took all by himself -- why does he keep making this goofy face lately?) That being said, our house is a disgusting mess -- due to the fact that I have been sewing since Saturday to make him a school bag. We had decided not to buy him one this year, but I discovered a rip in his backpack from last year, so I went to the store and got some canvas for his new messenger bag. I think it turned out kind of nice, don't you? And now I'm off to clean up this mess...

He looks straight out of a catalog in the picture where he's looking down and sporting his bag. He looks so grown up and AWESOME! I love that kid. Oooh, and I love the bag, too! He looks ready for college, Natalie.

Good luck, Parker!

Love the bag; love Mr. Goofy Clown-Face. I remember how excited I was for first grade. Of course back then we had to dodge the dinosaurs...

Do you have a pattern for that, or did you just whip it out of yo' bad self? Totally nifty. I bet Jacob would get a kick out of a messenger bag too! (they're both pretty stylin' boys)

Messenger bags are sweet awesome! But not as awesome as the personal touches. :)
